Phil Lynott was a founding member, songwriter, singer, and bassist of one of the most famous rock acts in the world during the mid-1970s and early 1980s. Called Thin Lizzy, the band had a string of commercial hits including, Whiskey in a Jar, The Boys are Back in Town, Jailbreak and Waiting for an Alibi, to name just a few. His untimely and tragic death on 4th January 1986 at the age of 36, was because of his struggles with alcohol and drug dependency, which led to pneumonia and heart failure due to septicaemia. Phil Lynott is a son of Dublin, Ireland, and a statue of him stands in the centre of the city.
